You may be excused for having a ‘Suspicious Mind’, but I commute regularly by train and was experiencing a long in-line for the ticket window.
The early model ‘pre order and Fast ticket kiosk’ broke down and another large cue quickly developed.
Suddenly, Elvis appeared and went to work on the kiosk. Within minutes, the machine was dispensing tickets and the line quickly reduced.
My delay was due to the ‘remodelling work’ taking place behind me (in the picture with Elvis). Last evening all was revealed. Yes, a suit self-serving kiosks!
Banks and Super markets are experimenting with new payment kiosk systems as a way to cut payroll costs and increase efficiency, hopefully without angering customers. But they risk alienating their customers if their self-pay kiosks fail to work properly or people resent serving as part-time cashiers.
However, the growth in electronic payment systems serves as a warning to businesses that the population is being groomed to make all monetary transactions electronically!
The new generation of consumers, who are growing up with cards, are likely to turn to cards habitually to pay. The introduction of contactless payments has increased the willingness of consumers to make more low value payments by card or mobile phone/device.
As a retail business or Service Provider, you will need to ‘get on board’ and take electronic payments. By not accepting cards, your business may be at a competitive disadvantage.
Equally, if you are accepting card payments, check that you are paying a competitive rate for transactional fees and charges.
