The Accrington Business League event started for me with helping to dress and prepare the room. Then as guests began to arrive we welcomed them and made introductions.
Bernini got the formal networking underway with a few announcements and then introduced the first headline sponsor.
Angel 1 – Penny Heys, representing headline sponsored Accrington and Rossendale College, updated us on the colleges business relationship initiative. Penny had met with five companies in the last week discussing how the college could help with the development of staff, employees, trainees and apprentices. The feedback was very encouraging.
Angel 2 – Christ Pilkington delivered news of the East Lancashire Chamber of Commerce latest initiatives and events. Two key developments are the Initiative called Chamberwise buying group and the other is the launch of an FX service. Go to http://www.elancs for more details
Angel 3 – Jo Fulthorpe of Hyndburn Enterprise Trust, fresh from her ‘Three peaks charity challenge’ in support of McMillan’s cancer trust talked about the success of the trust in helping new and established businesses with funding and guidance. The trust is rebranding as to reflect their geographical coverage and reach.
Julie Young – How to get and keep customers
Angel 4 – Julie Young (Spencer Fold Independent Management Consultant) gave us the benefit of her experience with a short presentation titled ‘Winning and keeping customers.’
Listening to Julie talk, most people would probably agree that most of the points are ‘common sense’ but for some reason, we omit some or even all of them.
Simple things like respect for other people property or possession, remembering that ‘one size does not fit all’, listen to and understand your clients challenges before ‘advising’.
I will suggest that Julie publishes the presentation – I for one, would be happy to share it.
