Berni’s A team Lian, Chrissy, Jo, (Berni), Maureen, Zoe, Ben Penny, Me
Bernie and the team brought together the whole room with 12Days of networking Christmas perfectly accompanied by Peter Koziura, the accordion player.
The Accrington Business league kicked off with announcements from the sponsors.
Jo Fulthorpe Hyndburn Enterprise Trust reported on their success in helping new start and existing businesses to the tune of £1,000,000. Next year the plan is to double the cash help to £2,000,000
Chrissy Pilkington East Lancs Chamber introduced her colleague Lian Frankland and talked about new initiatives from the chamber, working in partnership with other enterprises such as HET. See chamber web site for more info on how they can help you and your business moving forward.
Penny Heys ACCROSS. also thanked members of ABL for their continued support and announced forth coming initiatives for businesses to work with and help students develop.
A special mention for Maureen Askew, Early years & Childcare Consultant, who raised over £300 for the charity ‘Brain wave’. Brainwave is a charity that exists to help children with disabilities and Developmental Delay achieve their full potential. Maureen is a regular supporter of the business League and popular amongst the members. she proudly presented her short locks. Well done Maureen.
I played the captains role (because I was the last to sit down at the table) to take us up to lunch.
Following lunch Ben Kelly & Zoe Houston Inspire Accrington presented to the room. Inspire is a fully integrated substance misuse service offering rapid and open access to assessment and treatment for people experiencing problems with drugs and/or alcohol, promoting recovery from addiction and dependence.
During the recovery stage of the intervention, Ben and the team work hard to help their clients find work or build a business. Today, Kate Furey, one of their success stories gave a short testimony, both moving and inspiring – ‘If you want things to change, you have to first change yourself. Once you make that commitment there are no end of people who will help and assist you’.
Finally the festive fling. Berni and Kate led the main chorus while each table sang ‘on the #day of Christmas’. It turned out to be loads of fun.
This was the final Accrington League meeting of this year. Berni closed the meeting but as usual many people stayed behind to consolidate connections. The room was filled with extra spirit and deservedly, Berni and the team should pat themselves on the back for a task well done.
Merry Xmas and see you all in the new year Accrington Business League.
