The room was almost full to capacity and open networking in full flow. Nothing feels better than going somewhere where everyone knows your name. Smiles, handshakes and warm embraces. I love networking.
I was introduced to Chris from Fuzion Studios. This was his first visit to a networking event. He asked for my views on networking. As if on cue, Sue Lawson from Scott Dawson Advertising stepped up and handed me a card. She referred me to one of her clients. Thanks Sue.
Representatives of two of the regular sponsors were absent today, Chrissy Pilkington (East Lancs Chamber) and Jo Fulthorpe (Hyndburn Trust). You were missed ladies. Burni continued with the news round-up. Two local businesses Raecan and Adrac had earlier visited the College to discuss the traineeship scheme. Further proof the Busieness League is delivering for the college.
Rob announced his plans to enter the ‘Monte Carlo or bust’ rally to raise funds to improve services and facilities at the Stanley ground. There was also a big shout out for the forth coming friendly against Nelson FC. I might be wrong but I got the impression that it will be less than ‘Friendly’.
Today I wore the captains armband with pride and led the two rounds of seated networking. It was great to see people not just exchanging business cards but actually making arrangements to hold follow up meetings – myself included.
After lunch Justina Hamilton shared part of her personal journey and her association with FM Fragrances & cosmetics. I find it interesting that the people I meet who have achieved success do so in-spite of the challenges life presents them with. They just have the resolve to ‘get on with it’ regardless. Justina was quite inspirational today.
Berni closed the meeting with the prize draws and a shout out for up-coming events. The room stayed busy for more than another hour. People were engaged in Interviews, asking searching questions, forming and strengthening relationships. The transformation and growth in stature of the ACCROSS Business Leagues is plain to see – from the earliest event that I attended to this, the last one of the season. The ACCROSS team effort in attracting a diverse group of businesses, the support of the sponsors, the inspirational talks delivered by Rob and a mix of informative business presentations make the ABL events a unique affair. This is further substantiated by the high number of attendees who are members of other networking groups and organisations, but also make the effort to attend ABL events.
Special recognition should go to Berni Rosco as the driving force behind the ACCROSS Business League initiative. On behalf of all who embrace the spirit of networking I offer Berni our thanks. See you all next season.
