AMS Business Clinic interactive session
The inaugural business clinic hosted hosted by Kay Knowles of AMS Solicitors at their offices in Fulwood, Preston was a great success. For just the investment of my time I was privileged to three business ‘consultations’. I say consultations because each presenter gave me tips, ideas and clear instructions that I can and will, apply to my business immediately.
From my seat the event went very well and very smooth. Steve Clarke of Lindsey Clarke explained how a business can easily avoid calling him by simply following some basic actions. Thank you for your openness and honesty Steve.
Farook Patel BEng, FCA – Director, Riley Moss Chartered Accountants, chose to cover the topic of incorporating your business and examined the pros and cons of this action. He explained that most people only ask about ‘Tax implications or reductions’ but there are other issues which should take priority, for example how profitable your business actually is and how closely you monitor the finances of the business. These sentiments echoed the advice from Steve.
Business owners often neglect or resent performing many of the administrative and management tasks associated with running a successful business. Ensuring purchases, payments and collections are performed in timely fashion. The third presentation by was titled ‘Positive Cashflow Finance’ by David Marshall and offered positive applications of two increasingly popular methods of increasing cash flow and collecting owed monies – Confidential Invoice discounting and Invoice Factoring. These are tasks can be outsourced cost effectively.
The final presenter was Mary Murtagh, Media & PR. Mary gave practical advice and examples, from a case study, of how a business can successfully gain free publicity in print and social media, radio, television and online. We were each given a template with which we could craft our own press release.
The North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce lent their support and were represented by Carl Rogers. The Chamber also sent out notifications to members. It’s great to see the chamber being very proactive and supportive. Well done Carl and the team.
What did I gain from the meeting? Farook Patel, Riley Moss Chartered Accountants, referred me to one of his clients who runs a chain of boutiques. I had two requests for a 1:2:1 and I will broker an introduction to one of my clients. I was also asked if I would write an account of my networking experiences for the Chamber.
The AMS Business Clinic and network event packed with value. The fees involved to hear and have the opportunity to chat one on one with the three experts would have totalled in excess £1,500.00. Kay ran a great event with hospitality and facilities to match. Kay’s meticulous attention to detail was very apparent. I have attended many network events and presentations and I fully endorse this event as one of the best I have attended. Well done Kay and your team. I look forward to an invitation to the next one.
