ebb & flo bookshop’s latest update!
Firstly congratulations to the winner of our £50 voucher prize draw, 8 month old Thomas! Well done and hope you enjoy all the lovely board books your mum will be buying for you.
Our evening event coming up next week is ‘An Evening With the Bookshop Band’ on Thursday 13th June.
The band write and perform songs that are inspired by books. Chorley is the only place in Lancashire that the band is visiting on their tour of the North and Scotland so we’re really lucky to have them here in the shop and we can guarantee you’ll never have been to anything quite like it! Local writer Claire Massey will be reading some of her short stories on the evening as an extra treat.
There are still a few seats left so ring, email or call in to book yours quick!

An Evening with The Bookshop Band – A bookish, musical evening with 3 talented musicians. The Bookshop Band write songs inspired by books and, as part of their tour of the North and Scotland, ebb & flo bookshop is the only Lancashire venue that they’re playing at. They’ve been featured on Radio 4, 6 Music, The Culture Show and the BBC News and have just returned from playing at Shakespeare & Company in Paris. You can read more and listen to them at http://www.thebookshopband.co.uk/ .
Local writer Claire Massey will be joining the band to read some of her short stories as an extra treat.

Author talk/book signing with Cath Staincliffe (author of ITV’s Scott and Bailey novels) – As part of Independent Booksellers’ Week, Manchester-based Cath Staincliffe will be talking about her latest novel, Blink of an Eye, crime writing in general and signing books. Blink of an Eye is a novel about the family nightmare that could be just around the corner for any of us.

Paperback launch of ‘The Friday Gospels’ with author Jenn Ashworth – Preston-based author Jenn Ashworth (named as one of The Culture Show’s Best New British Novelists), is holding the paperback launch of her latest novel, The Friday Gospels, at ebb & flo bookshop. Set in Chorley, the book follows an eventful Friday in the household of the Leekes, a Mormon family. The book is laced with black humour and is both bleak and touching. It gives an unusual insight into the Mormon way of life and is, ultimately, a tale of what matters in times of crisis.
Jenn will be joined by Carys Bray, author of Sweet Home who will be reading from her recently published short story collection.
Tickets £4 (redeemable against the purchase of a book on the night), drinks and nibbles.
Independent Booksellers’ Week runs from 29th June – 6th July and there will be lots of things going on in the shop throughout the week including our author visit, Where’s Wally Hunt, chocolate prizes and more.
Our summer holiday programme of activities will also be on the website soon. There’ll be more from Book Transformations and Kids’ Art Rooms plus new stuff, so lots for little ones and not so little ones to do.
