During the open Network session Kevin and I bantered as to who should ‘warm the crowd up’. It turned out that we didn’t have a say in the running order – Ann Ainsworth told Kevin he was first.
As I sat and listened to Kevin I couldn’t help but think back to our 1:2:1and the things I learnt about him and his work.
Kevins presentation to the group contained more technical detail than what he shared during our 1:2:1 but I knew so much more about him.
I was able to fill in some of the gap years. Moving locations, working with others, his experience of playing music and going to gigs. In fact, that morning Kevin and I arrived at the same time and met at the front door. He referenced my car registration plate. It bears the letters ‘XTC’ which reminded him of the 80s Band. That was our conversation piece as we went for coffee.
Occasionally I glanced around the room at the other members, my thought skipping between wondering what they thought of the presentation, how they would receive me and a little smug believing I knew more about the speaker than they did.
No one gave anything away as they all listened intently and respectfully. Kevin answered questions at the end and sat down to gentle applause.
Kevin clearly demonstrated his knowledge and expertise, a true professional with a keen eye and passion for detail.
